Your Audit Is Eating Engineering

Your assessment bill doesn't include the engineering time spent hunting for evidence.
A server in an accountant's visor struggles to move a wheelbarrow of audit paperwork that blocks a production machine while a workshop clock keeps ticking.

Your assessment bill doesn't include the engineering time spent hunting for evidence. That cost comes out of delivery work, maintenance, and improvements your team could have been making. Treating compliance as a year-round operating process can help you recover some of that capacity.

In the CMMC forum discussions we've reviewed, one problem keeps coming up: subcontractors are spending too much time collecting evidence by hand. There is plenty of attention to getting through the assessment. We hear much less about using the same work to make the business easier to run.

A folder full of evidence also doesn't tell management what still needs attention. Which controls have supporting records? Which findings remain open? Where is an owner waiting for information? A company needs that operating picture throughout the year, not just when an assessor requests it.

AIC's built-in GRC capabilities include control mappings, coverage views, and readiness measures. These help the team organize the relationship between requirements, assessments, and supporting evidence. Configuration checks, repair results, privileged-access records, and training attestations supply evidence for those reviews instead of turning every request into a fresh collection exercise. Readiness measures help prioritize work.

Take a recurring server repair. PAM brokers and records the approved session; Configuration Compliance checks the resulting setting. Attach the session record and rescan result to the relevant evidence request. Then look at the outstanding coverage and resolve the gaps. The benefit is a shorter path from actual work to an understandable account of it.

Measure the business effect yourself. Track staff hours spent preparing evidence, repeated requests for the same material, and findings that return after a repair. Compare those costs with the time and expense of keeping the controls and records current. Include software, operation, training, and assessment costs in the comparison. A cheaper subscription isn't necessarily a cheaper way to run the company.

We believe continuous compliance can strengthen the business as well as prepare it for assessment. Assigned evidence-request owners make handoffs easier. Brokered PAM sessions limit credential exposure. Rescan results and training attestations cut repeated evidence collection. Those improvements can protect productive time and margins instead of making compliance a recurring interruption.

You don't have to reinvent the process. AIC includes guides, cookbooks, recipes, and training materials at no extra charge. Start with one control mapping, collect its configuration or access record, and examine the remaining coverage gaps.

What takes the most time in your organization: operating the control or proving that it operated? Bring us the painful example, including your MSP's part in it. We welcome the complicated cases and want your feedback to help make the product more useful.
