A temporary security exception can outlive the person who approved it. Once the decision disappears into email, ‘for now’ has no reliable end. Giving the exception an owner and a review date helps keep accepted risk from becoming forgotten exposure.
Exceptions are sometimes necessary. Losing track of them isn't. The record needs to say what is affected, who owns the decision, what treatment was agreed, and when someone will revisit it. A changing environment can make yesterday's reasonable exception a much bigger exposure.
AIC's built-in GRC capabilities include a risk register with ownership, treatment decisions, acceptance, and review history. That gives the operating team a place to retain the decision alongside control findings and supporting evidence. It doesn't turn an unresolved technical finding green just because management accepted the risk.
Consider an older application that needs a privileged service account. The immediate decision might be to restrict its reach, monitor its use, and schedule the application work. Preserve the finding, the temporary measures, the responsible owner, and the review decision. When the application changes, revisit the exception rather than carrying it forward by habit.
An organization with a broader enterprise-risk system may keep the authoritative risk decision there. In that case, agree how AIC's configuration findings, access records, and repair results supports it and which system owns the record. Two competing copies of the same decision create more work.
For a smaller security boundary, AIC's risk register, named owners, treatment decisions, and review history may cover the need without another overlapping platform. The useful test is whether the responsible people can keep decisions current and explain them later.
Start with the exceptions you already have rather than designing an elaborate enterprise-risk program before recording the first decision. The included guidance and training give the team a way to begin. A useful owner, treatment, and review history is more valuable than an expensive custom process nobody keeps current. Add complexity when the organization's actual responsibilities call for it.
Bring an exception that keeps getting renewed. We can demonstrate risk ownership, treatment decisions, and review history and discuss whether it should serve your team directly or support the platform you already use. Bring the awkward exceptions too. Complex use cases are where we need your input, especially when the usual workflow doesn't fit.
